Questions regarding the talks on CD
Where do the titles of the talks come from?
No generally applicable classification scheme exists for Bruno Gröning's talks. Bruno Gröning did not give any titles to his individual talks himself, so their date and place would seem to provide the best criteria for distinguishing between them. Nevertheless, there are some talks for which it is not possible to establish precisely where and when they were given. We therefore use the opening words to distinguish between them, and we also use these words as the title. Exceptions to this are the Christmas talks, for which we use a central statement from the talk as the title, in order to preserve the link with the theme of the talk.

How many talks are still to be published?
There is still plenty of unpublished material. Optimising the sound quality and producing the CDs is extremely costly, so we can only publish new material when the financial position of the Stiftung permits it.

Why is the quality of the sound recordings you offer not always the best, and why does it vary so much from talk to talk?
To make the CDs, we begin with the original tape recordings from the 1950s. Obviously, they do not have the high sound quality that we are accustomed to from present-day audio recordings. Many tapes are easy to understand, others less so, and in certain places the difference in sound quality is very great. Although we take great pains to use modern technical processes to minimise the hiss on the tapes and to remove background noise, this does not mean that the sound quality cannot be improved further. In the end this is not just a question of money. If you have professional technical expertise and equipment that could be of assistance in this, we would be very grateful if you would get in touch with us.

What does "word-for-word transcription" mean and why is so much emphasis put on this?
For the majority of the talks that we offer on CD in our shop there is also a text version than can be downloaded from our website. Our aim is to produce an absolutely exact transcription of the spoken words. To this end, each talk is scrupulously copied out and then goes through several cycles of proofreading. This effort is necessary because even small divergences in the transcript can lead to interpretations of what was said that should be avoided. We are obviously aware that Bruno Gröning did not always express himself in a grammatically correct way, but we are of the opinion that it is not the outer form of his words that is the important thing but their content. In the interests of absolute authenticity, our concern is to prepare transcripts of the talks that are "one-to-one", which reproduce what was said exactly. If you should become aware of any discrepancy when listening to the CD and reading the transcription, we would be grateful if you would let us know and we will include the correction in our ongoing correction of the texts. Transcribing the talks requires a high level of concentration and takes a great deal of time. For this reason we ask that you will be understanding of the fact that text versions of all of Bruno Gröning's talks are not available at the moment.

Why do the PDF documents always have their creation dates recorded on them?
Despite thorough proofreading, many mistakes can still be overlooked. We are continually correcting these once we have been made aware of them. By referring to the creation date it can always be easily established which edition of a document is the current one.

Why are there several talks only in a text version or only on CD?
Certain of Bruno Gröning's talks – especially those from the early years – only exist in the form of a stenographic record. No audio recording was made of them.

Questions regarding our publications
I would like to print the articles in their original layout. How can I achieve the best print quality?
The articles that are available in the "Publications" section were digitised at the highest resolution using a professional scanner. The published versions have been optimised for printing on domestic printers (300dpi). Better results can be obtained if you do not select the "greyscale" option when printing, even if you are printing a black and white original. A standard colour print is better.

Why is there a separate version of the text available to download as a PDF file in addition to the original layout version?
There are two reasons for this: firstly, the text is easier to read, as the character size in the original articles is often extremely small; secondly, it is possible to search the entire document in the text version, which is not possible in the original layout version.
